This is my manual drawing for a general cover of an End On (Proscenium Arch) theatre. I have used 1K Fresnels as backlight and minuette fresnels for the wash. I have used the triangular technique / 3 point lighting (backlight and a fresnel from the left 2 bars up and the same on the right).
Using a protractor, I was able to find the correct positions of the minuettes as I knew that it had to be 45 degree angles from the centre of each individual square. The squares (A, B, C, D, E, F) represent the space in which a performer would stand. It ensures all areas of the stage are lit and there are no patches.

Manual Drawings, General Cover, Traverse
This is my manual drawing for a general cover of a Traverse stage. I have used 1K Fresnels as backlight and minuette fresnels for the wash. Profiles could be used alternatively to achieve a more intensely focused / narrower beam of light as they have shutters instead of barn doors.
Using a protractor, I was able to find the correct positions of the minuettes as I knew that it had to be 120 degree angles from the centre of each individual square. 0 Degrees starts on the backlight.
The squares (A, B, C, D, E, F, G,H) represent the space in which a performer would stand. It ensures all areas of the stage are lit and there are no patches. A and Bs backlight is rigged from bar 1-10 because from the opposite direction it would not work. C and D's follow the same pattern. Oppositely E - H are facing upwards on the plan above as the light covers the areas better than just coming from just the one direction.
Manual Drawings, General Cover, Thrust
Above is a manual drawing for a general cover in a thrust stage. I have used 1K fresnels for the backlight and minuette fresnels for the wash. The 4 corners system was applied for sections A - C because there is no backlight. The three point triangular lighting technique has been used for the back 3 areas, similar to End On theatre.
Manual Drawing, General Cover, In the Round
This is my manual lighting design drawing of a theatre in the round. I have used profiles as apposed to minuette fresnels and 1K fresnels because when lighting a theatre in the round no backlight is required because the positioning / movements of the performers is unpredictable and the audience are seated all around the stage. Instead the performers are lit by all four corners in which ever area of the stage they stand. (A - I)
The Key Principles for a theatre in the round are that profiles can be used instead of fresnels because the edges can be manipulated better because there are no barn doors. Instead there are shutters which allow the beam of light to become more intensely focused - here they will allow the designer to create a perfect beam that creates a circle, avoiding hitting the audience. This would not be possible with fresnels because barn doors cannot create a circular effect as they are not a round shape.
